Area Information for Benalmadena

Benalmadena consists of three separate areas and the most commonly known part of Benalmadena is Benalmadena Costa which boasts 9km of “European blue flag award” winning beaches, 2km of paved promenade, a multitude of restaurants and bars and it’s stunning port, Puerto Marina, which has won the award for the best marina in the world on two separate occasions.

Benalmadena Pueblo, with it’s elevated position overlooking Benalmadena Costa is the regions administrative centre and is a quaint hillside village with narrow cobbled streets and maintains much of the white washed Andalucian architecture for which this area of Spain is famous. It is just minutes from the apartment and has several very good eating places.

Finally there is Arroyo del la Miel which is a compact, busy little village buzzing with activity the whole year round. The many repeat visitors to this part of the Cost del Sol are never disappointed by the amount and variety of facilities that there are to offer. Attractions such as Tivoli World, the Sea Life Centre and Selwo Marina, not to mention the abundance of bars and restaurants which are all firm favourites with visitors from all age groups.

The Torrequebrada Hotel and Casino is also well worth a visit and the international show in the Sala Fortuna is possibly one of the best shows on the coast. Fuengirola is situated just few miles west of the apartment and it is possible to take the train to both there and Malaga. Currently it is not too easy to reach the station of Carvajal however an access road is in the process of being built and should allow easy access by 2007/8. The railway is a great way to travel being clean, efficient, cheap and stops at the airport enroute to Malaga and beyond.

One of the last remaining traces of the ancient past of Fuengirola lies with the dominating Moorish castle situated to the west of the town, perched on a hill overlooking the sea. Fuengirola offers all the facilities normally associated with a popular tourist destination and cosmopolitan business centre. There is no shortage of bars, clubs and restaurants to cater for all tastes. It is possible to walk from the castle at Feungirola all the way along to Carvajal on a well kept promenade which has many tourist attractions, bars, restaurants and, of course the famous well-groomed sandy beaches.

The wider area of Mijas Costa consists of the urbanisations of El Faro, La Cala de Mijas, Miraflores, Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda. The administrative capital for the region is the mountain village of Mijas Pueblo which is a short distance from the coast however in terms of the differences between the old village of Mijas and Mijas Costa, they could be hundreds of miles apart!

Within the region of Mijas there are several golf courses as well as the numerous "Blue Flag" award winning beaches and small coves and a multitude of leisure activities.
